Portia by Bray flexible PVC ring pessaries

SPECIFICATION:

Portia by Bray flexible PVC ring pessaries have a wall thickness of 12.5mm and are available in 16 diameter sizes ranging from 50mm to 110mm.  The vaginal ring pessary is a white uniform symmetrical smooth torus-shaped ring of plastic which is a simple, stand-alone device not requiring any interaction with any other device, medicine or accessory.  It is an invasive device placed through a body orifice, is not a surgically invasive device and is not intended for connection to an active device for long-term use. It is recommended to replace the pessary before a maximum time of 6 months.
INDICATIONS FOR USE:

The  Portia by Bray flexible PVC ring pessary  is prescribed to patients by a Healthcare Professional (HCP) for the treatment of symptomatic uterine prolapse  after consultation and a simple, painless internal procedure. In most cases the vaginal ring pessary will be fitted by a HCP. In some parts of the UK, where primary or secondary healthcare units have decided that such initiatives are appropriate, patients with sufficient mobility, strength and aptitude are encouraged by their prescribing doctor or specialist nurse to remove and replace the vaginal ring pessary by themselves. Self-management programs are conducted by medical professionals and operate under their supervision. Contraindications may include fitting discomfort, bleeding, ulceration, inflammation of the pelvis, infection such as vaginitis, patient non-compliance and delayed follow up.

What is a vaginal pessary?

A vaginal pessary is a removable device that is placed in your vagina following a diagnosis of pelvic organ prolapse. Different types of pessaries are available: ring pessary with or without support, Gellhorn pessary and a cube pessary are the most used types of pessaries.

Most pessaries are placed to improve symptoms of prolapse of the uterus and/or vaginal walls. Sometimes your healthcare professional will suggest a pessary to prevent or reduce urinary incontinence during exercise. Pessaries are most suitable if you wish to avoid or delay surgery, e.g. if your family is not yet complete, or if you have medical problems that will make surgery a risk.

A healthcare will perform a vaginal examination to assess the type of prolapse. They will measure your vagina to decide on the best type of pessary for your individual case.

A speculum may be inserted into the vagina to assess the severity of your prolapse, which may help with the choice of pessary which most suits your need. The pessary is inserted through the vaginal opening and is placed quite high to support the weak tissue.

The Portia by Bray flexible PVC ring pessaries have a wall thickness of 12.5mm and are available in 16 diameter sizes ranging from 50mm to 110mm.  The PVC pessary is flexible and has a thick wall. The Polythene pessary is more rigid with a thinner wall thickness of 7.5mm and are available in 15 diameter sizes ranging from 50mm to 100mm.
